KLUBINK MEETS TENEDLE ITALIAN SONGWRITER AND PERFORMER RESIDENT FROM YEARS IN HOLLAND TO SPEAK ABOUT OF HIS NEW ALBUM “ODD TO LOVE” WAITING HIS RETURN TO BARCELONA”.
Why this album now?
Because when I have a good idea I don’t have to wait for any publisher or record label anymore, I have my little own label now. For Luck I do not have commercial success, and I am totally free to decide when give myself or those who follow me a gift. This album is a “gift”.
Are these new songs?
Five of these songs were in my drawer for a long time, then a few years ago I started to play them live and I began to feel their strength between the audience. Many friends led me to make a complete job and a year ago I started writing seven new songs.
Why Emily Dickinson?
E.D. is always been my great passion, her poems are not only among the most amazing every time, her personality, her way of life made the things he wrote universal, beyond poetry only. Her work and life is a rich human testimony, a lesson in art and creativity, inspiration and sensibility, her relationship with eternity, the fragility and the power of a human being, and each of her poem has a extraordinary strong musicality.
Peculiar and original is the album title ‘Odd to love’ too.
I realized I began to play with words also in other languages, and this bodes well.
I love this title too, it gives a lot of possible interpretations and I think this represents me as well.
It is a different records in your production and not only because of the English lyrics, how did you get to the idea to make such an experimental and thoughtful album?
Let’s say that out of respect to the figure that meant to sing, I had at least to find an intimate connection with the poems, the rhythm in Dickinson is already a formidable side, her text had to be interpreted by finding my inner voices, even among sound and interpretation.
You wrote and produced “Odd to love” in total solitude, excluding the contribution of Bert Lochs already guest musician in your previous “Vulcano”? Is this a choice or a practical need?
Always looking for that intimate connection with ‘Emily’, being alone was a necessity, I decided early to do this record “locked up”, like her at home, without attending any. Bert was of course the only exception and gave as in Vulcano his splendid “touch of grace” to Odd to love. A choice anyway.
Are you going to play these songs live, and above all are you planning to come back to Barcelona?
Coming back to Barcelona is always in my wishes, Barcelona is a city where I always felt “home”, from the first time, now I have many friends there, Catalans, Italians and international, I can’t wait to come back again and I hope it will happen very soon.
